GMO Info

Genetically Modified Organisms (GMO), can be both plants and animals (including insects). I will admit, listening to the claims of what the companies were saying about this new technology and how it can save the world from hunger was quite interesting….until I started to do some research and see why over 60 countries have banned and/or mandate labeling of GMOs. The research that is truly coming out does not line up with what the companies are saying. First, off all the claims of GMO Golden Rice will have higher levels of Vitamin A, which will help with blindness in 3rd world countries turned out being false and not working. The fact we can support up to 12 BILLION people on planet with the current amount of farm space, basically proves that GMOs are not needed and obviously monoculture of modern agriculture is not working. We are simply killing the soil by spraying herbicides and pesticides on “pest,” which are normally known as beneficial bugs and edible “weeds.”

(c) Genetically engineered.
(1) “Genetically engineered” means any food that is produced from an organism or organisms in which the genetic material has been changed throughthe application of:
(i) In vitro nucleic acid techniques, including recombinant deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA) techniques and the direct injection of nucleic acid into cells or organelles, or
(ii) Fusion of cells (including protoplast fusion) or hybridization techniques that overcome natural physiological, reproductive, or recombination barriers, where the donor cells/protoplasts do not fall within the same taxonomic family, in a way that does not occur by natural multiplication or natural recombination.

(2) For purposes of this subsection (c):
(i) “Organism” means any biological entity capable of replication, reproduction or transferring genetic material.
(ii) “In vitro nucleic acid techniques” include but are not limited to recombinant DNA or RNA techniques that use vector systems and techniques involving the direct introduction into the organisms of hereditary materials prepared outside the organisms such as microinjection, macro-injection, chemoporation, electroporation, microencapsulation, and liposome fusion.
(SEC. 3. Article 6.6 (commencing with Section 110808) is added to Chapter 5 of Part 5 of Division 104 of the Health and Safety Code, to read:)

This in not to be confused with Hybridization.

In short, Hybrids are produced through cross pollination from two plant parents that will occur natural, but the process can be controlled. Whereas, GMOs, a scientist has to change the DNA on a cellular level with combinations that would not happen in nature. i.e crossing strawberries with cod fish to make a more cold hardy strawberry to grow in Russia. Also, when they change these genes there is NO way to recall them once released!

2. A MUST SEE Documentary

“In preparation of the global March Against Monsanto, you are invited to watch our award-winning documentary Seeds of Death free.

The leaders of Big Agriculture–Monsanto, DuPont, Syngenta–are determined that world’s populations remain ignorant about the serious health and environmental risks of genetically modified crops and industrial agriculture. Deep layers of deception and corruption underlie both the science favoring GMOs and the corporations and governments supporting them.

This award-winning documentary, Seeds of Death, exposes the lies about GMOs and pulls back the curtains to witness our planet’s future if Big Agriculture’s new green revolution becomes our dominant food supply.” – Gary Null

4.Talking with the beautiful Leslie from GMO Free Idaho. She went over the basics of Genetically Modified Organisms touching on the GM crops and Frankenfish they are experimenting with. She also explained how others can get involved in their own state. She brought up an awesome positive point that because of all these laws being created to protect these companies is because more people are becoming aware!gmo frankenfish

5. Here with Jim from Food and Water Watch Director of the Eastern Region. Talking about updates of the Tri-state area with what is going on with the Genetically Engineered food and what we can do with the March Against Monsanto.

6. Talked with the Director of the March Against Monsanto

Our first Special Guest was Nick Bernado who was the Director of the Global event to March Against Monsanto on May 25, 2013 that reached 2 million people 436 cities in 52 countries!

He talks about how he was involved and wanted to see more action so he put the march together. He then explained how we can continue the fight for our food and how to spread the word using social media and networking.

He gave a very positive vibe about how the West Coast is coming along, which gives us great hope here on the East Coast to keep pushing forward!

7. Most of us do not consent to being the human experiment to test GMO foods..

Think about the saying “You are what you eat.” and when become something that becomes YOU on a cellular level… and there is a corporation that “owns” the genetic make up… get in line.

8. Why is there a Monsanto Protection Act?
I know this was a bit lengthy, but I wanted to get it all out. I feel this has gone a little far once they start messing with ALL the food. The craziness of the fact that the Monsanto Protection Act passed even though it didn’t surprise me since somehow Prop 37 did not work either. If 62 other countries banned it why do we allow it? If you want to Control the People, you must Control the FOOD.
On a Positive note I propose more community gardens for the children to bring back the “neighborhood”
